Yes, it is a reality: Peru, 100% smoke-free snuff ... So established by law enacted on 30 March 2010 amending Law 28 705 or general law for the prevention and control of the risks of using snuff, which authorized the "smoking areas only." is now banned smoking in enclosed public spaces, indoor workplaces and public transport .
But the law, as well as protection against smoke, snuff, also strengthens the health warnings, in order that these be extended to 50% of the two (2) main faces of the packs and all sorts of packs of cigarettes, including pictograms and texts about the health damage that occurs smoking.
Two (2) of the four (4) congressmen who voted against the law, political groups, assuming as spokesmen for the tobacco industry, announced possible actions under the commercial business owners and potential constitutional legal action by the industry. For Congressman Daniel Abugattás with this rule is violating the right of smokers and Rafael Muente of British American Tobacco BAT, the rule is discriminatory because smoking is a legal activity, besides boosting informality in the marketing of snuff. No wonder this type interference have also been proposed in other countries, but as has just happened in Guatemala, justice upheld the constitutionality of the measure in compliance with the rights to health, life and healthy environment.
reactions environments citizen support 100% smoke-free are progressive, to the extent that media, as the national newspaper "Mail", will come with the nifty cartoon that heads this post, making itself a message of no electoral support to the congressmen who opposed the law.
Congratulations to COLAT , a sociologist and Congressman Alda Lazo, President of the Defence Committee Consumer Congress, government officials who supported the initiative and, of course, the people of Peru who now boasts more and better guarantees for public health.
